On my way home today after a medical appointment, I found myself driving along scenic Highway 90, and it hit me—wow, I’m really lucky to live here. Coastal Mississippi is just stunning.
It’s the start of a long holiday weekend, and as a beach destination, things are already picking up. The crowds are rolling in, and more are sure to follow. That’s great news for our local businesses—hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, attractions, gas stations—you name it. Tourism is a big deal here, and weekends like this are when the whole community benefits.
But for me, this isn’t a vacation spot. It’s home. I’ve lived here for nearly 13 years now, and I honestly can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Highway 90 is the heart of our coastline. It runs right along the beach, connecting all the little cities that make up Coastal Mississippi. Sure, we have I-10 a few miles inland if you’re in a hurry, but Highway 90 is the one you take when you want to slow down and actually enjoy the ride.
Yes, there are traffic lights—lots of them—and yes, it can get a little congested sometimes. But honestly, I don’t mind. It’s part of the rhythm here. And the views? Worth every pause.
There’s something incredibly calming about that drive, especially after a hectic day. You’ve got the Mississippi Sound on one side, people walking the beach, birds soaring overhead, and maybe even a shrimp boat, sailboat, or jet ski out on the water. Sometimes the sky is clear and sunny; other times, it’s dramatic and moody with storms brewing in the distance. Whatever the weather, it’s always beautiful.

And today, it just reminded me: we really shouldn’t take our surroundings for granted. Whether you live here on the Coast or somewhere totally different, take a moment to appreciate what’s around you. Find the little things that make your area special.
But when you’re ready for a getaway, I wholeheartedly invite you to visit Coastal Mississippi. There’s a reason people keep coming back. We’ve got something for everyone—families, couples, solo travelers—and we’re a whole lot more affordable than some of the bigger cities nearby. And if you want to explore those bigger cities too, they’re just a short drive (or soon, a train ride) away. Yep—Amtrak is starting service along the Coast in just a few weeks, making it even easier to get here and explore.
So, if you’re looking for your next vacation spot—or even just a weekend away—put Coastal Mississippi on your list. I think you’ll love it as much as we do.
